A brand new way to talk to each other. This book changed the way I have conversations forever.
Truly a must read in this time! This book actually changed my life and gave me a framework for conversation - something that was incredibly difficult for me having been raised in a household where we were basically allergic to truth telling - especially if there was a risk of any sort of confrontation. This framework grave me the tools to set boundaries with the very people who taught me how to NOT communicate! I recommend this book to any person out there who feels small, as though her thoughts and feelings aren't worth discussing, and is basically underpaid, under appreciated, and unable to speak her truth clearly!
So glad this material is finally out in book form! I’ve been following Alex and Bob’s recent work online and have had the chance to try out the AIM method in a variety of contexts, both professional and personal. Sometimes I find that a conversation is already following the broad outlines of beginning with Intention, then Concerns, Boundaries, and ending on a high note Dreams— it’s like much more nuanced way of approaching a topic than say drawing up a Pros and Cons list — and so it’s easy to bring it in an informal way. Other times, it's worked better to say “Let’s try this method as a way of structuring an important conversation and see if it fits."
I purchased 2 copies of this book- one to share among my personal life and one for my professional life and coworkers. The authors, Alex and Bob, are uniquely positioned to use their individual and shared background and skillset to teach strategic communication methods that apply in both personal and professional relationship dynamics. This book is providing me guidance to have difficult, yet constructive conversations with my employer in the midst of organizational change, and with my family as we navigate entering new stages of life. Alex and Bob make the All-In-Method attainable for the reader through concise teaching that focuses on shared understanding and empathy. I look forward to sharing this book and implementing AIM with my family and co-workers.
Why play conversational tug-of-war when all sides can be delightfully All-In? With Alex and Bob’s transformational book and method, Radical Alignment is possible in all facets of life and work. This is more than a book — it’s a magic key for unlocking clarity and communication in even the trickiest circumstances. I know because I turn to it every time a solution seems intractable; Bob and Alex’s warmth, wisdom, and experience shines through the pages, as if they were guiding each of us over a cup of coffee to greater clarity, peace, and collaboration.
I love this book and its methodology. When it comes to having difficult conversations, it’s often avoided versus facing head-on. The AIM method makes doing this simple. Just follow the process and you immediately get deeper insight into another person’s thoughts, intentions, boundaries, fears, and dreams. It’s these kinds of frameworks that have the power to change the world and I am so grateful for Bob and Alex’s decision to share this. We all need more powerful and connected conversations in our lives, especially in 2020.

As a consultant I spend about half my billable hours reconciling the irreconcilable. And I've noticed that in the last few years, the level of tension, tip-toeing and misspeaking that happens on the workplace is on the rise. People are more careful than ever about what to say and how. And yet important conversations are only getting more difficult. That is, until you read this book. Bob & Alex have eloquently broken down a framework that frees the mind and the tongue. This book gets communication flowing, creates congruence among team members and just makes it all EASY. If you work with people and have to navigate high stakes conversations, this needs to be in your tool kit.
Whether it's for professional reasons with a team member or manager, or if you're simply getting ready to leave on a family vacation, try this! This method of communication really, reeeeeeally helps my husband and I. You have to be willing to be vulnerable and humble. But when you are, then you allow the other party to do the same and it's amazing how the conversations you'll have will lead to better outcomes 🙂
This framework is simple and yet so incredibly useful. I've used it for a range of conversations — some of them important and intense and others more casual. It has helped me relate better with those that I'm engaging with and vice versa. It helps me show up curious, open and receptive — which has yielded in understanding and deeper connection.
I have spent my adult life studying and practicing communication. I'm no stranger to different approaches and formats, and am also ever humbled by how hard it can be for two (or more) humans to try to connect and communicate. I love this book, I love this simple format laid out in such a graceful way by Alex and Bob. It's influencing how I think about potential conversations, as well as ones I'm having, helping me feel clearer, bolder, and more compassionate. So glad this book exists! Read it! You will be enriched and empowered!
